Frequently Asked Questions

Can a private limited company invest in mutual funds?

Yes. A company can invest in mutual funds where its constitutional documents permit it, and a board resolution authorising the investment and naming the authorised signatories is normally required. Section 179(3)(e) of the Companies Act 2013 deals with the board’s power to invest the company’s funds. Your auditor or company secretary should confirm the position for your specific facts.

What does a company need to open a folio?

Non-individual KYC, which is more involved than an individual’s. Expect to provide incorporation documents, PAN, a board resolution and authorised signatory list, ultimate beneficial owner declarations, FATCA and CRS forms, and bank details matching the company account. Getting these right first time is the main thing that determines whether onboarding takes days or weeks.

How quickly can we get the money back?

For liquid and overnight funds, redemption proceeds are typically credited the next business day, and some schemes offer an instant redemption facility subject to a per-day cap. Timing also depends on cut-offs: a redemption placed after the cut-off is processed against the following business day. This is worth planning around if the money is earmarked for payables.

Do you charge us a fee?

No. Finzip is an AMFI-registered Mutual Fund Distributor, ARN-189270, and distributes regular plans. Our commission is paid by the asset management company, not by you, and we publish the indicative rates by scheme category on our disclosures page so you can see our incentive before you invest.

Is this suitable for money we might need next week?

It depends on the instrument and on how certain that need is. Overnight and liquid funds are designed for short horizons, but they are market-linked products and their value can move — they are not a substitute for the money you need to make payroll on Friday. The right approach is to tier your cash: operating balance, buffer, and only then surplus.
