Frequently Asked Questions
Which of these covers does my business actually need?
It depends on what you own, what you do and what your contracts require. Most businesses with premises or stock start with property and general liability. Service businesses such as IT, consulting and healthcare are often required by client contracts to hold professional indemnity. Cyber cover matters wherever you hold customer data.
How is the sum insured decided?
For property, on either reinstatement value — what it would cost to rebuild or replace today — or market value, which is lower. This choice matters more than most buyers realise: if the sum insured is set below the true value, many policies apply an average clause and reduce the claim in the same proportion, so even a partial loss settles for less than expected.
Is any commercial insurance legally required in India?
Some is. Third-party motor cover is mandatory for any vehicle used in a public place under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. The Employee’s Compensation Act creates a liability for workplace injury, and public liability cover is statutory for businesses handling hazardous substances. Property and cyber cover are not mandatory, though clients and landlords often require them contractually.
Do you charge us a fee?
No. Finzip Private Limited is an IRDAI-registered Corporate Agent (Composite), registration number CA0985. The policy is issued by the insurer, and Finzip is remunerated by that insurer in accordance with IRDAI regulations. You pay only the premium set by the insurer.
What do you need from us to quote?
Broadly: what you want covered and what it is worth, where it is located, what your business does, and any claims in the last few years. For liability and cyber cover, insurers will also ask about turnover, the sectors you serve, and the controls you have in place.
